The Other Side of the Enmancipation Proclamation Essay

Current modernists attempted progress from the terrible prejudice toward African Americans, however traditionalists prevented the new movement of equality for blacks. Many people are influenced by previous experiences and expect situations to continue on endlessly without change, similarly F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, â€Å" So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past†( Fitzgerald). In deeper meaning this quote means that as humans we are constantly trying to relive what has already happened, and if we try a little harder or run a little faster events might have had a different outcome. I believe this a major point of differentiation between modernists and traditionalists in the south. By 1870, the Ku Klux Klan had branches in nearly every southern state, the groups main object being an underground campaign of violence against Republican leaders and voters in an effort to change the laws of Radical Reconstruction and restore white supremacy in the South.(J.M. Bryant Ku Klux Klan in the Reconstruction Era.) The KKK’s tactics of political terrorism were effective and set fear in the hearts of many. Black churches and schools were burned, citizens attacked, and people who refused proper submission were beaten and killed. This was a terrible time in American history and truly shows southern whites contempt for emancipation of their slaves, and the extremes circumstances whites would go to express that animosity. Another example of the hostility and hatred of the southern whites was lynching. Lynching is defined

The integration and the disruption in the organization is dependent on the acquisitions and mergers that will help the organization in realizing its core values (Boos 2014). The use of strategies is also done in branding because the companies will try to brand the entire experience of the customers rather than focusing on branding of the product. The employees that are on the frontline, which comprises of telemarketers and sales associates are comparatively, paid less who has the role of delivering the effectiveness of the brand. The efficient use of strategies help the organization in creating new business models, which further helps in shifting the hierarchies and the autonomous teams that are present in the organization. He went a step further and stated that the solutions that are available as remedies are called pillars according to Morieux. There are two ways in dealing with the problems; one is the hard way that is by changing or creating the structures of the organization. The other one is soft way, which is inclusive of the interpersonal traits and the sentiments of the employees. These pillars have become obsolete according to Morieux (Fullan 2015). Question: Discuss about the Australian Investment and Security Commission. Answer: Issues faced by crown resorts The directors of a corporate organization have the duty to act in the best interest of the company. Section 180(1) of the Corporation Act 2001 (Cth) instructs the directors and officers of a company to deploy care and diligence in relation to their operation. Such care and diligence is evaluated by appointing a hypothetical person as a director in the same situation and analyze the reasonability in relation to the decision[1]. The decision has to be in the best interest of the company. In the case of ASIC v Cassimatis[2] it had been stated that any reasonable director will not breach the law of the land in any condition. Even the shareholders do not have the power to ratify such acts. In the given situation the directors of crown sports have violated legal provisions by sending agents to china in order to recruit high roller gamblers where gambling is illegal in china. In relation to such action employees of the organization have been arrested by the Chinese government which also inc ludes Australians. In addition there has been a 14% decline in the shares of the organization which has subjected the company and its shareholders to major losses. The company has also suffered reputational loss because of its actions. In the given situation the corporate legal issues which are faced by the directors of crown resorts are in relation to the directors duties violated by them. The directors as discussed above have breached section 180(1) of the CA by not acting with diligence and care in relation to the affairs of the company. Role of AISC The Australian Investment and Security Commission is a corporate watch dog in Australia. It has the duty to keep an eye on the affairs of corporate organizations. The AISC regulates integrated corporate, financial services, markets and consumer credit regulators in Australia. The vision of the commission is to allow the markets to fund economy and trigger economic growth. The AISC has the purpose of ensuring the financial wellbeing in Australia. The AISC promotes the confidence and trust of consumers and investors, ensures efficient and markets and providing proper registration services. The AISC brings actions against organizations who fail to act in an ethical and legal manner and thereby causing loss to the investors and creditors. It seeks orders like financial penalties along with suspension of directors in case any violation has been identified[3]. In the given situation where the employees of Crown gave been arrested in china for illegal activities it is the role of AISC to in vestigate into the matter. This is because such a decision by the directors may cause significant losses to the investors and creditors of the company. In addition where any company registered with the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) have been accused of violating law it is the duty of the AISC to make investigation into the matter. In case the AISC finds out that the directors of Crown have violated their corporate duties it will seek legal actions against them in Australia. Possible Remedies Upon investigation if it is found by the AISC that the directors of Crown have actually indulged in illegal activities there are several remedies which are available in relation to the CA. violating the duties of directors provided in the CA is a civil penalty provisions. In addition the directors can also be prosecuted under criminal liability under the criminal code as per section 6.1 if they are found to violate the provisions of section 184 of the CA which is to recklessly breach the duties provided in section 180-183 of the CA. The civil penalty provisions are provided under section 1317E of the CA[4]. The directors may be subjected to a financial penalty of upto A$200, 000 in case of serious breach. In addition the directors of Crown may be suspended from managing a corporation for a period up to 5 years under the provisions of section 206C of the CA[5]. The directors may also seek an alibi under section 1317G where the court may pardon the breach committed by them in relation to their duties. However the AISC needs to prove that the directors have committed a serious breach. In the case of Australian Securities Investments Commission [ASIC] v Lindberg[6] the ASIC was able to obtain a suspension of 2 year along with a financial penalty of $100,000 where the directors had violated section 180(1) of the CA. Although the director has an outside settlement in relation to penalties the AISC had to prove its case in the court. The Commonwealth bank has been subjected to a big drop in its share price after AUSTRAC has launched a case in relation to money laundering against the organization. This may also subject the organization to a potential class action by its shareholders. AUSTRAC has brought an allegation against the organization that they have been associated with consistent money laundering operations by terrorist and criminal gangs. The CBA has been accused of wide breaches in relation to Counter-terrorism financing and money laundering rules. Civil penalty proceedings have been initiated by AUSTRAC against the company in the federal court for serious and systemic non-compliance[7]. The conduct of the CBA has subjected the Australian community to serious and ongoing financial crime as provided by the court in filing. On the other hand it had been provided by the bank that they would never indulge in an activity or action which would enable any kind of crime. The issue which has been brought before the court by AUSTRAC is that there has been a failure on the part of the bank to report suspicious matters in relation to transaction of over A$77 million. It has been alleged by the agency that 53,700 contraventions of counter-terrorism laws and Anti- money laundering laws have been made by the bank in particular to its intelligent deposit machines. The maximum penalties which can be imposed in relation to the anti-money laundering and counter terrorism is A$18 million for every violation[8]. It has been stated by AUSTRAC that even in situation where it was obvious that the machines were used for suspected money laundering the bank did not take necessary steps to mitigate and manage the risks. It has been alleged by AUSTRAC that the machines had been utilized by four money laundering syndicates which included those associated with drug import and distribution network. The machines had been used by the syndicates for the purpose of depositing and transferring cash at low amounts which would keep suspicion at bay. One of the money laundering activities involved more than 21m deposited into 11 CBAs which mostly came through intelligent machines. The bank allegedly failed to take any action even after been provided with warnings by the Australian Federal police. In the given situation is the role of the AISC to investigate the issue. Along with the organization itself the directors would also be subjected to prosecution because of the breach of directors du ties committed by them. Magical Realism Symbolism Essay Example

Magical Realism Symbolism Paper Magical Realism and Symbolism In literary works, to aim for a successful story the writers say as much as possible in a nutshell. They use three available resources which are symbol, allegory, and fantasy. In literature an allegory Is spontaneous and its a world of symbols. This literary device Is a story that has a deeper and more general meaning In addition to Its surface meaning providing a bundle of characters. Objects, or events with added significance. A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquee is a Tory that combines imagination with events that we live everyday. This fable keeps the reader waiting to find out the real meaning behind the old mans visit. It is a blue world when Appeal finds an old man with large, damaged wings stuck in the mud. This strange visitor owns a pair of wings and speaks a weird dialect, no one knows for sure who or what he Is. Garcia Marquezs short story displays the truth about us and society as a whole by comparing and contrasting two of the most noticeable and important symbols which are the title character, the Old Man, which is a symbol of scarification and the Spider-Girl, which symbolizes acceptance. The reactions from the people of the town toward the physical appearance of a strange creature with a bald skull, just a few teeth in his mouth and enormous and dirty wings like a rare angel, shows how people are very prejudiced to differences of other Individuals. They viewed the Old Man as an odd figure Just by looking at his outer shell. (270) The people didnt understand his dialect and Just because he was old, dirty and his wings distorted he was considered frail to be an angel. Father Kananga said, He had an unbearable smell of the outdoors, the back side of his wings was strewn with parasites and his main feathers had been mistreated by terrestrial winds, and nothing about him measured up to the proud diddling of angels. (271) Since, angels are usually depicted as beautiful, young, and clean and the Old Man didnt persist these qualities he was considered an illicit angel and therefore mistreated by his appearance. The man with enormous wings demonstrates noble characteristics that qualify him as an angel. This noble man never turned to them with violence in response to how they treated him, on the contrary he brings them good fortune. This clearly shows discrimi nation because the wings the old man carried made him uniquely different and this was the justification for the people treating him with such cruelty. The story says, With the money they saved they built a two-story mansion with balconies and gardens and high netting so the crabs wouldnt get in during the inter, and with iron bars on the window so the angel wouldnt get in. (273) The company of the angel deeply changed Appeal, Lessened, and their sons way of life. I nee went Trot Dealing relatively poor to Dealing people AT great wealth contradiction, they did not do anything for the angel to thank him and Just left him in the chicken coop like an animal. Along with these two people, the towns people didnt see the inner shell of this creature and Just based their characteristics on his overall The Spider-Girl is accepted by the people because she was understood by the people. Even though this womans physical appearance seems to include none in association with angels, on the contrary shes a, A frightful tarantula the size of a ram and with the head of a sad maiden. (273) She is treated with much more respect than the Old Man. A spider is usually depicted as large, hairy, ugly, and scary and yet she is given the chance to be accepted by the towns people by intriguing them with stories and showing her real self. The Spider-Girl, who is a symbol of acceptance and is a clear contrast of the Old Man. Her story of disobeying her parents by going dancing and for violating their ales and being struck by lighting and changed into a giant ugly tarantula is the key for acceptance. Her admission price is much more lower than that of the Old Man and she speaks to her visitors explaining the reason behind her appearance. Since her story is easy to understand and her explanation is a clear moral, the people believe her and accept her. In contrast, the Old Man does nothing to explain the reason behind his appearance, doesnt entertain people the way the Spider-Girl does, and instead his miracles are drawn as practical Jokes. It seems to be a public acceptance of supernatural explanations for such simple standards. In literary works, allegories help the reader add to the point that the author is trying to make. For example, abstract qualities are shown through both characters, the Old Man and the Spider-Girl and this helps personify the characters and it helps relate the world today with the whole race issue. It assists in classifying the roles of a personal quality and trait by leading clues for the reader to follow the deeper meaning. Using allegories in a piece of fiction makes the writing more interesting and unique and keeps the readers challenged. Garcia

Reflect on If I could be any historical figure within the time period, Research Paper

Reflect on If I could be any historical figure within the time period, who would I be and why - Research Paper Example In essence, politics revolve around who governs what country, what government is which country and how people are governed. It is argued that, politics dictate the social and economic lives of people in varying countries (Hout 3). As such, countries with good governance or political stability are said to have good social and economic life while those with poor political governance or no stability mostly suffer from social and economic slowdown (OHCHR 3). In regard to history and world politics, I would have wanted to be Dr, Martin Luther King Jnr. in the last three centuries. Dr. King had been brought up by a religious family where his father is alleged to have a strict hand in term of discipline for him, his elder sister and the younger. Despite the involvement of the family in church and his father being a minister, Martin Luther King was reluctant to religion and at most rebellious (Fairclough 35). In mid 1950s , the King Jr began his activism on civil rights and played a hug role bringing to an end the legal segregation that had built up between the Africans – Americans in the U.S. Moreover, he managed to push for the formation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Nelson 22). In a general sense, Martin Luther King made a huge impact on the continuous segregation that was witnessed the U.S in the 1960’s. ... As a result of the bizarre bus incident and the arrest of the African American, other Africa American come together to fight against racism and elected Dr. King as their leader. This group of African American began by fight against segregation in the Montgomery Buses and soon, the Africans could no longer receive unfair treatment for the rest of the Americans (Fairclough 38). In the same year, the segregation of the bus was boycotted, fellow Americans who referred themselves as ‘whites’ were agitated by the influence that Martin Luther King had made on African Americans and they decided to raid his house with the intention of killing him. However, their mission was unsuccessful as no one was hurt during the incident. As a result of the problem that African American encounter due to segregation, they decided to push their fight a step high by coming up with Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Through the activism and leadership of Dr. King, they expanded their non v iolent battle against discrimination that had spread to every part of the U. S. It is worth mentioning that, the infamous civil rights activity facilitate by Martin Luther King Jr to place in August 1963. The activity entailed the King as the main leader and other blacks who were civil right leaders across the country held in Washington DC. The agenda of the meeting was to compel the congress to pass a bill that had been created by the then president Kennedy. Of importance to note is that the meeting was held by both white are and blacks at the Lincoln memorial. Written down as the infamous speech â€Å"I Have a Dream†, the speech gave a definition of the moral basis that revolved around civil rights movement. Indeed, the congress was convinced and the following year they
